The United States of America is located in the central part of the North-American continent. It is bordered by Canada from North and Mexico from South. The Pacific-Ocean separates it from Asia in the West and the Atlantic-Ocean from Europe in East. Its area exceeds 9 million square kilometers. Forty-eight states and the capital, Washington D.C., form the main territory, while Alaska is located North from Canada, and the Hawaii Islands are in the middle of the Pacific-Ocean.

The geography of the USA features the following: The central area of the county is a huge flatland, bordered by the Great Lakes from North – which is the largest system of lakes in the world –, the Appalachian Mountain from East, and the Rocky Mountain from West. The Southern part of the flatland is the fertile plain of the Mississippi River. Heading towards West, the countryside gradually steepens to 2000 meters and becomes a dry, grassy desert. The majority of Alaska is dominated by high chains of mountains. The Hawaii Islands are a volcanic archipelago.
