The majority of Wyoming is a highland territory, which is determined by the Rocky-, Bighorn- and Black Mountains. The only exceptions are the narrow valleys of the Green River and the North-Platte River. The North-Western parts of the state are covered with evergreen forest and pine trees; the Eastern and Southern slopes are meadows and the prairie. Wyoming is one of the least sparsely populated states of the USA. Its population is below half a million. The larger cities are Evanston, Green River, Rock Springs, Laramie and Cheyenne in the South, Casper in the middle, and Gillette and Sheridan in the North.
